Hessenthaler mulling over Gills offer
Hessenthaler mulling over Gills offer

Andy Hessenthaler is still believed to be considering an offer of a director of football role at Gillingham.

Hessenthaler left his position as manager of the club last Tuesday and has since been offered a place on the board in a role assuming responsibility for all club football development, scouting and recruitment.

It is believed that Chairman Paul Scally asked Hessenthaler to spend the weekend considering the offer, with a decision due soon.

Hessenthaler told Gillingham’s official website: “He (Scally) has offered me a post to consider becoming a director of the company overseeing all football matters which is interesting and I will give myself a few days to think about it.”

“It’s food for thought at the moment, I will take stock and see what I want to do in the future.”

He added: “Is there a future here for me? We’ll have to wait and see. I have no regrets, I had a right good go at it and if I do not stay for my new role then I can go with my head held high.”

With Hessenthaler considering that offer, Scally continues to look at the applicants for the vacant manager’s position with Micky Adams, Mark Robson and Ian Hendon all having been linked with the job.

Adams link seems to be a tenuous one at present with a statement on the official Port Vale Twitter account saying: “Micky Adams has dismissed reports linking him to the vacant manager’s job at Gillingham. Micky is currently on holiday.”

Meanwhile, as we revealed last week, former Millwall coach Steve Constantine, who is currently manager of Cypriot side Nea Salamis, has been linked with the job and has seen his odds of taking over Hessenthaler’s old position slashed to 7/2 second favourite behind Robson.
